Just when I got my fashion fill last month with Menswear Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013-14: London, Milan and Paris here comes New York with another helping. Per usual I’m watching all the show for “thinspiration” and to get a head start on next season’s wardrobe while I’m working on this season’s body. I’ll be the fist to admit that New York’s men shows aren’t as satisfying as the decadence overseas nevertheless, there is always that old favorite that gives you your just deserts…fat free of course. Case in point- Tommy Hilfiger.
Every since Simon Spur took over the men’s team at Hilfiger he’s been pumping up this American classic collection. What I love about American sportswear is that though it may not be as edgy as Parisian aesthetics it is strong, proud and most of all American. The look of this collection was to scream American fashion loud and clear with the
over use of classic khaki, hounds-tooth and Prince of Wales patterns. The detailing is sharp and the tailoring is perfection. My favorite part of this collection are the jackets and coats, very preppy with a mega touch of luxury. It’s something about this collection that is very fashion forward and trendy without trying to be something its not.
I think it’s sharp how the hounds-tooth is incorporated in the lining, used as piping and the argyle doesn’t age or dull the look of the ensembles. This is a very streamline and precise collection. With majority of most designer opting for flamboyant concepts, Hilfiger kept it simple without keeping it simple. Off all these shows I’ve seen this weekend this is my standout collection for a more dressy approach. I don’t think this collection is to be paired in its completion but there are plenty of great pieces to take from this show and add to your own wardrobe. I’ve picked my top nine dapper looks.
